The Value of Giving

At the beginning of this year, a precious collaboration was born with Gabriele Formenti: radio host, flautist, music teacher and writer. Many of you already know him as the voice of Passione barocca, on air every Friday at 9:00 pm, or from selected episodes of VCR Festival, broadcast on Tuesdays at 9:00 pm, both on VCR Classica+. Those who listen closely know this well, Gabriele does not merely 'present” music, he lives it. He accompanies it with respect, knowledge and love.

After a few months of collaboration, Gabriele made a gesture that deeply moved us: he decided to donate to VCR a very significant part of the CD collection that once belonged to his father, Angelo Formenti (1950-2024), a Milan-based physician and passionate music lover. A collection built over time, carefully chosen, and listened to with dedication. Further below you will find a short biography recounting his life and path.
It is an impressive donation, yes, also in quantitative terms - the exact number of CDs is still difficult to determine, but those visible in the photo represent approximately one third of the total - but its greatest value lies elsewhere. In its meaning. In the passing of a legacy.

Those discs will not remain closed on a shelf, nor frozen in a private memory. They will become part of the VCR archive, which today already includes around 8,000 titles and they will return to sound. Every day. In distant homes, through headphones, in cars, during sleepless nights or working afternoons. They will continue to live through the listening of thousands of people all over the world.
We believe this is the most beautiful and authentic way to honour a gesture of love like Gabriele’s and to preserve the memory of his father: by allowing the music to continue speaking, comforting and inspiring.

Gabriele’s donation is not an isolated case. Throughout the year, and especially during the Christmas season, many listeners choose to support VCR also through a financial contribution. Every donation, small or large, is a sign of trust. It is an invisible thread that connects us and makes all this possible.
Thanks to you, we are able to keep our 'sound bridges' alive: increasingly reliable servers (our invisible antennas), studio equipment that guarantees ever higher listening quality, a constantly growing musical archive and new projects that will soon take shape.

I would like to warmly thank Gabriele Formenti for his generous gesture, all of you for the friendship and loyalty you show us every day, and especially those who have chosen to support us. A sincere thank you also goes to Federica Preto and Stefano Viero, who work behind the scenes together with me to grow this project with care and dedication, as well as to all the many collaborators, musicians and professionals from the musical world who work with VCR.

May music continue to accompany us, today and tomorrow.
Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year to all of you.

Angelo Formenti

Angelo Formenti (1950–2024), born in Milan, graduated in Medicine and Surgery, was an ENT specialist and founder of the E. De Amicis VideoEndoStroboscopy Centre for the upper digestive airways. He was a founding member and for many years the Italian representative on the Board of Directors of the Sir Charles Bell Society, based in San Francisco (USA). He was deeply interested in psychoanalysis and the philosophy of science and, in this light, in the meaning of illness, the care of the human being who is ill and its humanisation, as well as other bioethical issues such as research and scientific experimentation. For many years, he collaborated in the pedagogical, educational and research activities of the Rinascita A. Livi Experimental Lower Secondary School in Milan, with a musical curriculum, serving as President of the Institute. A great connoisseur and passionate lover of classical music and art, he held three personal exhibitions of painting and sculpture and published five volumes of poetry and prose: Logopedia interiore (1999), Assenze (2003), Angeli (2018), Versi Enoici (2019), Epifanie, a family novel (2022).
