'Trame Sonore': in Mantua, the International Festival Blending Music, Art, and Beauty

From 29 May to 2 June 2025, Mantua once again hosts 'Trame Sonore', the international Festival that fuses chamber music, art, and beauty. Five days, over 150 concerts in 30 historic locations, with 300 artists from across the globe. Historic palaces, museums, courtyards, and theatres become protagonists of a narrative that weaves together music and architecture, tradition and innovation. This year, Palazzo Te celebrates its 500th anniversary, the Teatro Bibiena reopens after restoration, and the Sala di Manto will once again resonate with music after years of silence. The beating heart of the festival remains Palazzo Ducale, with its Galleria degli Specchi and Sala dei Fiumi.

The festival offers thematic pathways - the true 'trame sonore' - guiding the audience through a journey across eras and styles: Baroque Rivers, Mozart’s Home, Monteverdi’s Echo, Wunderkammer, ‘Round Midnight, Šostakóvič50, to name just a few. There will also be informal moments like “A Coffee With…”, initiatives for young musicians, and intimate “Hausmusik” concerts in Mantua’s hidden salons.

Pianist and conductor Alexander Lonquich will be the Artist in Residence for 2025, his constant presence offering a poetic and authoritative thread throughout the programme. Featured guests include Ian Bostridge, Giovanni Guzzo, Enrico Bronzi, Liza Ferschtman, Sergey Malov, Laura Catrani, Zlata Chochieva, Trio Kanon, and many other acclaimed artists.

The Looking Forward project shines a spotlight on the next generation and the future of chamber music, with professional meetings, the 'Youth Chamber Music' contest, and educational activities such as the Scuola Sonora. There are also several tributes, including Šostakóvič50, marking 50 years since the death of the great Russian composer.

'Trame Sonore' is an open-air laboratory that promotes the value of art music in a UNESCO World Heritage city. An experience that is inclusive, vibrant, and full of light. The full programme is available at oficinaocm.com.
